I adjusted the pattern by making one stitch on each wristlet, for a thumbhole. It seems that this adjustment helps the wristlets stay in place. My mom is warmer while using her phone in cold weather- and she looks pretty stylish, too!
The recent revival of fingerless gloves/mitts/wristlets/gauntlets seems to be directly related to the rise of smartphone usage during winter months. They're definitely a fashionable way to keep most of your hands warm while playing games and texting friends. This pair of wristlets was made for my mom, who needed to bundle up and didn't want to buy expensive smartphone gloves. The pattern comes from a knit-a-day calendar and was super easy. As you can see from the photo below, you just knit a rectangular piece with cable up the center, then stitch the ends together and wear.
