This is my friend Marty. His head was cold (Iowa winters can be brutal!), so he requested a hat. Marty's hat is a simple crochet hat, made using wool yarn and a size N hook. My trick to making hats fit well is to use my own head as a form. Since Marty's head is much bigger than mine, I had to wear a ponytail while trying on his hat- and still make the hat even looser! As you can see from the photos, Marty was really excited about the finished product. His head is now warm no matter where he goes! Every tree needs a star! Mine just isn't at the top. ![]() I didn't make my tree topper, but he's too cute not to share! My grandma sent me an assortment of hand-knit finger puppets and this Santa was truly the tops (see what I did there?). He fit perfectly on my skinny tree. I wish I knew who made this cute guy and his friends- little projects like this are a ton of work! I found a pattern for snowflakes at Attic24, one of my favorite crochet blogs. I really like the step-by-step instructions accompanied by photos. Also helpful is that the pattern tells you how to make two sizes of snowflakes, both pictured above. My new year's resolution for 2013 was to Stop Being Afraid of Fair Isle and Just Try It Already.
Just after Christmas, I set out to find a book on Fair Isle and stumbled upon a great one at the local used book store called Aran and Fair Isle Knitting. I flipped through its pages and discovered that the style wasn't so intimidating when broken down into little graphs. So I set out to make a hat... Happy New Year! My resolution as a knitter is a simple one: update this blog more frequently! I've completed a lot of fun projects in the six months since my last post and I look forward to sharing them this year! I plan to post 365 knit and crochet projects, one per day of the year. Happy knitting and crocheting! |
